Message from the Acting
It is indeed a great enchantment for me to address some vital and kernel issues and points with regard to the vision, mission, values and goals of our office- Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) in a nutshell. This is in order to shed lights on our mapped out plan which we all are duty bound to carry to its end using all possible modus operandi . It is a glaring and undeniable fact that the EIPO needs to strive to its utmost capacity to essentially strengthen the national IPR system as a sources of wealth creation and value-addition in its own right, to the benefit of the society and individuals, taking all administrative, technical and legal frameworks into account. Seeking direct participation and advisory from National Intellectual Property Council
National Intellectual Property Council held its first assembly of 2017/18 budget year on Sep 29, 2017 at Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office.
The Council assessed office 2016/17 budget year performance. It also ratified its previous assembly’s minute and passed decisions.
On the session, members of the council, after hearing to 2016/17 performance of the office which was presented by Office Director General Mandefro Eshete (Phd), forwarded suggestions. The Council farther, discussed on the two regulations: the Council regulation and technique committee regulation; and ratified them.
The Council also talked over activities of finalizing National Intellectual Property Policy. The draft policy has been sent to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for suggestion and efforts being made to ratify it through Council of Ministers the coming December. The draft policy was prepared in both Amharic and English languages and discussion was made with stakeholders.
Putting future directions, the Council stressed to closely work with the Office and strengthen its advising missions. In addition, the Council, agreed up on preparing its own plan and implement accordingly.
