Message from the Acting
It is indeed a great enchantment for me to address some vital and kernel issues and points with regard to the vision, mission, values and goals of our office- Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) in a nutshell. This is in order to shed lights on our mapped out plan which we all are duty bound to carry to its end using all possible modus operandi . It is a glaring and undeniable fact that the EIPO needs to strive to its utmost capacity to essentially strengthen the national IPR system as a sources of wealth creation and value-addition in its own right, to the benefit of the society and individuals, taking all administrative, technical and legal frameworks into account. Training of Trainers Held
A three day training of trainers (ToT) was held on utilization of Intellectual Property in small and medium sized enterprises from July 21 – 23/2015 at Aphrodite hotel. The training, which 52 participants took part drawn from universities and small sized enterprises from Addis Ababa and regional states, was organized by the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Director of Small and medium sized enterprises in the world Intellectual Property Organization Mr. Annil sinahin said that the objective of the training is to build capacity and utilize Intellectual Property (IP) effectively in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises. More than fifteen papers were presented by foreign and local trainers.
EIPO Director General Teshalle Yena on his part highlighted that Small and Medium sized enterprises play a pivotal role for economic growth of a nation. The sector would have a decisive role in poverty alleviation, job opportunity creation, import products substitution and transform the industry to gear the development of the country.
Mr. Teshalle added that more than 7000 technologies were utilized by the sectors out of which 4057 prototyped and 3057 improved technologies were disseminated to selected SMEs in all states of the country.
