Indigenous Innovation System
The main objective of the study was to assess the characteristics of indigenous innovation systems in Ethiopia. The notion of indigenous innovation as conceptualized in the study refers to a new, improved or imitated product/ process that leads to affordable access of quality goods and services, created in the bottom of the pyramid usually due to necessity, hardship and challenges. Indigenous innovation in the study context also involves the use of indigenous knowledge and resources by individuals or group to solve local problems.
A cross-sectional design was employed to gather and analyze information from 300 samples (100 micro enterprises, 70 TEVT institutes, 30 government institutes and 100 individual innovators). However, a total numbers of 207 enterprises, institutes and individuals responded to the survey resulting 69% response rate.
